SQL Server vs Oracle

May 19, 2010

Recently find this great advertisement from youtube , The publicity power of MS now is evolved.

some interesting comment:
>Sure, SQLServer tastes good at first, but after awhile, you find it’s usefulness somewhat limited, and it doesn’t mix with anything. Try SQLServer with Unix or Linux – can’t do it. And they’re free. So you end up paying more for the infrastructure to support SQLServer, plus the product itself, and, you find it costs MORE when run on the same size platform as Oracle!

>Bipartisan response: very entertaining, but I can see why it would annoy Oracle professionals. Obviously don’t use this for making choices between Oracle and SQL Server. As a DBA who manages both SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 10gR2: Oracle does HA, Backup-Restore & Performance better, SQL Server does OS-based Security \ Single-Sign-On (mainly due to only having to deploy on Windows) & Manageability better (Management Studio trumps new web-based DB Control \ Enterprise Manager).

>A great video promoted by Microsoft. We surely did hear some great (and false) stuff about SQL as against Oracle 11g. The BI is of course free with SQL but can that match with Oracle’s Business Intelligence (especially after Oracle acquired Seibel) ?? The manageability, as per the video, of SQL Server 2005 is great, well, I have my doubts. SQL 2005 boasts of TCO? Honestly, any enterprise using SQL 2005 do not see a ROI at all.
